The event website listed a 2 PM Eastern time start for the event, but participants started gathering hours earlier. Protesters carried signs, banners, and flags that had been purchased or homemade, displaying a vast array of messages and slogans. Chants could be heard shouted over megaphones and cheers from the crowd listening to guest speakers such as Senator Bernie Sanders (I) of Vermont.
Not all the protesters in the nation’s capital were there to attend the No Kings rally as a group of several hundred marched near the White House in support of President Trump.
